SPY CASE GETS MORE DESPERATE FOR NAJIB: COUSIN HISHAM THE NEXT TO BE QUESTIONED OVER FOREIGN CASH STASH CASE, WHILE MACC REMANDS HASANAH FOR ANOTHER DAY

PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will question former defence minister Hishammuddin Hussein as part of its probe into former intelligence chief Hasanah Ab Hamid, her lawyer revealed.
“They said they will most likely question Datuk Hishammuddin soon,” Shaharudin Ali told reporters when met outside the Putrajaya magistrates’ court.
The anti-graft agency is investigating her for alleged abuse of power.
Hasanah, who came into the limelight over a leaked letter from her to the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) seeking Washington’s support for Najib Razak at the height of the May general election campaign, was arrested last Tuesday.
MACC has since seized cash worth over US$6.3 million from a condominium unit in Cyberjaya.
The anti-graft body had also arrested a deputy director-general with a “Datuk” title and six administrative and diplomatic officers (PTD) at the Prime Minister’s Department.
Shaharudin said the MACC had sought for Hasanah to be remanded for another seven days on the grounds they wanted to trace more money related to the case.
The graft-busters, according to Shaharudin, also wanted to trace several watches and repatriate three individuals they believe were linked to the case.
“What came as a surprise was that Datuk Seri Hishammuddin was among the names mentioned by the MACC of individuals they want to question in their probe into Hasanah and seven intelligence officers.
“But Hasanah has denied Datuk Seri Hishammuddin’s involvement in the matter.” – FMT

COURT EXTENDS EX-CHIEF SPY’S REMAND ORDER FOR A DAY

THE remand order for former intelligence chief Hasanah Abdul Hamid was today extended for a day.
The Putrajaya magistrates’ court granted the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) application for a day’s extension upon the expiry of the remand order today.
Hasanah appeared in court handcuffed and escorted by MACC officers and her counsel.
She is detained under Section 23 (1) of the MACC Act 2009 which prohibits using one’s position or office for personal gratification.
Hasanah was picked up on Tuesday to assist in investigations into the arrest of seven administrative and diplomatic officers from the Prime Minister’s Department for allegedly misusing 14th general election funds.
When contacted, Hasanah’s lawyer, Mohd Khairul Azam Abdul said MACC had applied for a remand extension of seven days but was rejected by the magistrate.
Hasanah is the former director-general of Malaysian External Investigation Organisation (MEIO).
MACC sources have been reported as saying Hasanah was being questioned on how her officers had come to be in possession of about US$400,000 (RM1.6 million). Sources said the money was believed to have been given to the MEIO by the previous administration for safekeeping. – https://www.themalaysianinsight.com
