Taib's son to countersue interior design company

Mahmud Abu Bekir, son of Sarawak governor Abdul Taib Mahmud, intends to countersue interior design company Tatum (KL) Sdn Bhd.
This was after Tatum (KL) Sdn Bhd filed a suit with the Kuala Lumpur High Court for almost RM2.2 million claiming that Bekir's company Ivy Craft Sdn Bhd had "unlawfully terminated" a contract with the interior design company.
Ivy Craft Sdn Bhd, in a statement today, refuted Ivy Craft's allegation "in its entirety" adding that it intends to fully fight the claim.
"Ivy Craft Sdn Bhd further intends on filing a counterclaim against Tatum (KL) Sdn Bhd for a sum in excess of RM2 million.
"Ivy Craft Sdn Bhd’s claim against Tatum (KL) Sdn Bhd is for failure to perform its obligations under its contract notwithstanding substantial payments having already been made to Tatum (KL) Sdn Bhd," it said.
Ivy Craft Sdn Bhd claimed that Tatum (KL) Sdn Bhd's Aug 20 suit appeared to be a reaction to the former's letter of demand issued on July 30.
"Ivy Craft Sdn Bhd had communicated its intention of pursuing a claim against Tatum (KL) Sdn Bhd via a letter of demand dated July 30 seeking repayment of monies previously paid to Tatum (KL) Sdn Bhd due to its breaches and failures," it said. - Mkini
