Yoursay: MO1 tries to stay afloat with anchor tied to his foot

YOURSAY | 'Yes, Najib, staff can sign. But a staff cannot sign with the signature of his master.'
Vijay47: We can understand that constant, incessant trials and tribulations will cause the anxiety level to cross the tolerance threshold, and desperate justifications may have to be resorted to and putting it mildly, very mildly, these often can assume facets of the incredible.
Seen from a specific perspective, such displays may be expected, or even the norm within Umno, but considering the fact that Najib Razak was once the finance minister, somewhat higher sense and responsibility is demanded.
Sir, your philosophy towards basic financial instruments is so unusual as to be seen as weird. Some time ago, you stunned the nation when you confessed you would often sign cheques running into hundreds of millions without being aware of the source, purpose, or beneficiary. And this when you were not just a minister but the finance minister.
Now you produce a recently conjured-up document certifying billion-dollar donations and your proud proof of authenticity, unbelievably, is that the document carries some deceased Arab’s letterhead and the signature is in the same name.
In Saudi Arabia and similar sand-afflicted environs, signing a paper in someone else’s name may be acceptable and legal but in the civilised world, such imitation is, to again put it extremely mildly, frowned upon by the law.
I have one plea to make of you, Najib: should you at any time apply for a job, please ensure that your CV makes no mention that you were once Malaysia’s finance minister.
Royal Salute: Najib, spin all you want on the Arabian tale. But the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) has charged you for the transfer of RM42 million from SRC International Sdn Bhd, a then-subsidiary of 1MDB, to your personal account in AmBank right here in Malaysia. This is enough to nail you for up to 15 years.
We all know it is very difficult to pin you down in the 1MDB scandal because all transactions were carried out abroad by your associate, Jho Low.
First thing first: try to wriggle your way out of the SRC's transfer to you first, then the prosecution will piece together the evidence against you and Jho Low with assistance from the US, Singapore, etc.
And no Arabian prince will come to your defence, trust me. Why should they help a sinking ship?
Anonymous #21828131: This is the same man who went around allegedly saying that he was not aware that RM2.6 billion went into his account. Same with funds from SRC that landed into his account.
Now he claims that he has the letters as proof that the money was requested to be used in GE13 to prevent the opposition from buying over elected representatives.
This man just can’t remember what he said soon after the money was discovered in his account. He is always putting his foot in his mouth. I suppose this is one way of showing proof that he simply blabbers without even thinking of the consequences.
Anonymous 820581439249394: Simply put, Najib has involved a foreign government through pecuniary means to influence the outcome of a legitimate democratic process - the GE13 election in Malaysia. This is high treason.
Clever Voter: Many of the people who have worked in Saudi Arabia would describe the society as deeply religious and highly conservative in customs, values and even daily practices.
The society is distrustful of foreign practices being followed in the kingdom. A letter of this nature will require a high degree of formality, more so if it involves RM2.6 billion.
A proper letter with a formal signature will be needed, but in the first place, many are doubtful over this story. Saudi Arabia may be generous in giving money to charities but certainly not this one.
Anonymous_1527658987: The letterhead has an anomaly. The name is in upper and lower case except the "AL", which is in all caps. That is not an abbreviation of anything, but the word "al" which means "the".
I have never seen such a mistake made (I live in the Middle East). Especially not for official correspondence. It looks like an error by someone who doesn't understand Arabic.
Wg321: Maybe the staff can sign on behalf of the boss for "petty cash" but for over US$100 million? Either Najib is crazy or the Arab donor is crazy.
Anonymous #45527285: Yes, Najib, staff can sign. But a staff cannot sign with the signature of his master. If the staff signs, then his name must be on the letter.
If the staff is signing on behalf of his master, then the staff must put his name above his master's name on the letter and the letter signed off as "on behalf".
If staff signs as if the master had signed, then that is forgery. Being an ex-PM, you can't be that idiotic. Your spinning will not fool the people.
Roger 5201: A letterhead is simply what it is, a piece of paper. Indeed, when a staff signs on behalf of the boss, it is usually for mundane administrative matters with a clear demarcation specifying that the signature is “for” on behalf of the boss.
Nowhere in the letter did it say the donor's name is to be kept a secret so why is this letter only produced seven years later, when the supposed writer has passed away?
Clearwater: Is it possible that Najib is getting more stupid each successive day he is out of the PM's office? Is the man reverting back to his basic clueless self without the trappings of power and success?
Seems like it. With no one to guide or advise him, he is tying himself in knots with desperate fairy tales.
Pat20231: Three books released on the 1MDB scandal so far all implicating the present Saudi Arabian rulership to some extent and yet no denial from the Saudis so far.
Why would they want to play ball in this 1MDB saga and let Najib hang on to his alibi?
Chipmunk: Malaysian Official 1 (MO1) is trying his level best to keep afloat and the anchor is tied to his leg. He soon will be pulled down and that will be the day he will stop crying wolf.
He thinks that Malaysians are fools to believe his lies. Such an idiotic spin and he still thinks he can get away with it.
