KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Bersih 2.0 is disappointed that DAP and PBS have decided to skip a forum it is organising for the Sandakan by-election candidates tomorrow.
It said only the three independent candidates have agreed to take part.
The electoral watchdog said the aim of the forum is to bring together all the candidates so they could share their ideas and plans for the parliamentary constituency.
“We sent invitations to all the candidates but, unfortunately, only the independents are ready to participate.
“According to the DAP and PBS candidates, they are unable to join because their schedules are tight and cannot be changed,” it said in a statement.
The independents are Hamzah Abdullah, Chia Siew Yung and Sulaiman Abdul Samat. DAP is represented by Vivian Wong and the PBS candidate is Linda Tsen.
Bersih noted that the by-election on Saturday would the first in Sabah since the general election on May 9 last year, adding it would mark the one-year anniversary of Warisan-Pakatan Harapan rule in the state.
“In line with that, we would like to enliven the space for freedom of speech and democracy by showcasing the candidates to share their visions and to help the voters make their decisions in the by-election,” it said.
The forum, which is open to the public, will be held at Hotel Labuk in Bandar Labuk Jaya from 10am. - FMT
