We are waiting for a date to meet Perlis mufti, says Guan Eng

Perlis mufti Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin.
SHAH ALAM: DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said he is still waiting for a response from Perlis mufti Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin on when he can meet party leaders.
He said he wants to sit down and talk with Asri on his reported criticism of the party.
“As the fasting month is starting tomorrow, I believe the mufti may be busy.
“We respect his time and we do hope that he can spend some time to meet us,” he said.
Yesterday, Bukit Mertajam MP Steven Sim said Asri had agreed to meet DAP leaders, including Lim, over his alleged comments against DAP and Islam. Asri also told Sim his comments were misreported.
Sim, who is a deputy minister, said the party was always willing to accept “with an open heart” criticism and advice and hoped such dialogues with Asri will lead to greater understanding on all sides.
Meanwhile, when asked to comment on pressure from the public on sending Indian preacher Zakir Naik back to his country, Lim said he could not comment on the issue.
“We have to get a report from the relevant agencies first on the charges he (Naik) is said to be facing.
“I cannot comment on this issue as I was not briefed and this has nothing to do with my finance ministry,” he said.
Yesterday, PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man had urged the government not to send Naik back to India.
Last week, the Indian government filed money laundering charges against the preacher.
Naik was accused of wrongly acquiring about Rs1.9 billion (RM114.5 million) worth of assets. - FMT
