Tebrau Umno chief Maulizan Bujang said Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's supporters should stop teasing his return.
This is amid criticism among Zahid's supporters against acting Umno president Mohamad Hasan's leadership and suggesting that Zahid, who was elected as Umno president, should return from leave.
Maulizan said the message peddled by Zahid's supporters that Umno was now directionless was the exact reason why he was asked to go on leave.
"To these people, Umno needs a breath of fresh air and Zahid is not the person to do it.
"We pray that Zahid and former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak can get justice in the charges against them.
"Let Umno go to the current leaders and there is no need to tease about (Zahid and Najib) making a comeback," he said in a statement.
Both Zahid and Najib are currently facing corruption charges.
Maulizan said no one would stop them from coming back once they are cleared by the courts.
He said under Mohamad, Umno is seen to be cleaner and can inspire confidence.
"It is true some supporters have not returned to Umno as there are still those who think that Umno has not truly changed due to support for leaders who face various abuse of power and corruption charges.
"But with Zahid's teasing, which does not benefit the party, it is hard to create a perception that Umno has truly changed," he said. - Mkini
