Dr M conveys condolences, says Dr Khoo's passing a great loss

PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has expressed his condolences to the family of the late historian Emeritus Professor Tan Sri Dr Khoo Kay Kim.
"My deepest condolences to family members of Malaysia’s own son, Emeritus Professor Tan Sri Datuk Dr Khoo Kay Kim, who had passed away this morning," he tweeted on Tuesday (May 28).
Dr Mahathir added that Dr Khoo was a renowned historian who had contributed so much for the country and that his passing was truly a great loss.
Dr Khoo, who was widely regarded as Malaysia's national historian, died of lung failure on Tuesday morning at the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre. He was 82.

As the author of countless works in the English and Malay language, his essays and writings have been a primary source of reference for the history curriculum in Malaysia.

He was most noted for his book titled The Western Malay States 1850-1873, which was published in 1972.
Dr Khoo also published his memoir I, KKK - The Autobiography of a Historian in early 2017.
That same year, he was honoured as the 10th Tokoh Akademik Negara in recognition of his achievements in the academic world.
In 2018, Dr Khoo was named the recipient of the prestigious Merdeka Award.
