Mujahid: Harapan leaders, too, can be corrupt

The law should take its course if there is evidence of corruption involving Pakatan Harapan leaders, said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Mujahid Yusof Rawa.
He said that the MACC should be supported if it takes action against such leaders.
He added that he agrees with PKR president Anwar Ibrahim that corruption can also be committed by those in Harapan.
"I am not saying that corruption happens in certain quarters only, but that it can also happen to anyone, including Harapan leaders," he said when met at Masjid Maqbul, Teluk Kumbar, Penang last night.
"So let it be. If there is evidence of such cases, let the law take its course," said Mujahid, who is de facto Islamic affairs minister.
"We have given the MACC the biggest opportunity to take action without fear or favour.
"We should support the MACC. We cannot be biased when it comes to corruption. It is wrong to be biased," added the Amanah Parit Buntar MP.
Mujahid was responding to Anwar's remark that Harapan leaders "should not be blinded by power and flaunt their wealth now that they are heading the government".
Yesterday, the Port Dickson MP was quoted by The Star as saying that the "signs were already obvious within Pakatan itself, and that “yes men” would surround them in order to defend their acts".
He said such acts were not confined to those in BN "as those in power can suddenly show extravagant wealth".
Mujahid said the government is clearly aware that corrupt practices are not confined to certain groups or people.
"It cuts across all sectors and groups, whether they are government officials or the public," Mujahid told reporters before breaking fast with the Muslim community in the area.
"We were very clear when we launched our national anti-corruption blueprint that there are several sectors, which were prone to corruption such as the judiciary, enforcement and procurement departments, political parties, government agencies.
"All these are open to corruption for those who cannot control themselves," added Mujahid, who launched the Program Kembara Rahmah Nur Ramadan at the mosque. - Mkini
