Musa Aman trial dates set for next year

The Kuala Lumpur High Court has set the trial dates for former Sabah chief minister Musa Aman’s corruption and money-laundering charges.
The trial will start on June 8, 2020, and take place every weekday except Fridays, up until July 23.
Musa’s 35 corruption charges and 16 money-laundering charges were re-read to him today in the High Court before Judge Collin Lawrence Sequerah.
His case was then transferred from the Sessions Court to the High Court after an application by the prosecution.
DPP Raja Rozela Raja Toran said due to “some developments”, the prosecution was considering amending some of the charges.
“We expect to come to a decision (whether to amend the charges) soon,” she told the court today.
The court then set July 24 this year for case management.
On March 5, Musa claimed trial to 16 counts under Section 4(1) of Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing, and Proceeds from Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (AMLATFAPUAA) for allegedly laundering a total of US$37.8 million (RM155.5 million).
Besides these charges, Musa also faces 35 charges for graft under Section 11(a) of the Anti-Corruption Act 1997.
He is accused of receiving a total of US$63.2 million (RM260 million) in bribes in exchange for logging contracts.
The alleged offences took place in Hong Kong and Singapore, through proxies, between 2004 and 2008.
