UMNO will rise again and recapture Putrajaya to defend the Malay race and Islam from being toyed around by the current Pakatan Harapan government, said former prime minister Najib Razak.
Umno Online quoted the former party president as saying that Islam’s sanctity and the rights of the Malays are at stake a year after the PH government came to power.
He said it was difficult to articulate the sentiments of celebrating the party’s anniversary after losing the mandate to rule the country.
“Nonetheless, despite the pain and difficulties, we have to ensure that the party’s struggle for race, religion and the country continues.”
Najib urged party members to stay motivated and not lose heart from their mission to recapture Putrajaya after being unexpectedly unseated in the last general election.
“The defeat was something we did not expect. No matter what the circumstances are, we have to ensure that there is no excuse for the government to compromise on making the dignity of race and religion a priority.
“The government should not give in to pressure or interests of other parties,” he said.
Najib said this in a special message in conjunction with Umno’s 73rd anniversary today.
He also urged members not to feel weakened by their situation.
The Pekan Umno head reminded party members to be strong in continuing the party’s fight for the country, religion, and race.
“The signs for us to rise again are becoming more obvious. God willing, I believe that with the spirit of all Umno members who have been loyal to the party we will achieve this.
“Believe in your leaders today and don’t be easily influenced by the rhetoric aimed at breaking the party apart.
“InsyaAllah, Allah will be with us throughout our noble struggle for Islam.”
