PETALING JAYA: Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud has slammed an ustaz for allegedly saying that women who "tak tutup aurat (do not cover up)" deserve it if they were sexually violated.
The DAP Socialist Youth committee member criticised the religious teacher over his remarks.
"Dear ustaz, the one that is dead wrong with our society is not what ppl wear but your lack of respect for consent, your abusive mentality against women, (and) you think you are right and holy to teach people," she tweeted.
She said no one deserved to be sexually violated even if they were walking around naked in public in broad daylight.
"Clothes are not indication of sexual consent," she added.
The thread on Dyana Sofya's Twitter account on April 29 was retweeted over 1,400 times, and liked over 800 times – with many, including Ketari assemblyman Young Syefura Othman – expressing disgust over what the preacher had allegedly uttered.
The one-minute video showed the ustaz speaking to a group of people in a lecturer hall.
It is learnt that the lecture was part of a marriage course conducted by the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (Jawi) last weekend (April 27-28).
