PETALING JAYA: Come 2021, Malaysians planning to visit Europe will need to apply for a European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) visa waiver, according to its website.
Currently, Malaysians travelling to Europe do not need to apply for a visa for trips of up to 90 days.
“However, this will change from 2021, when Malaysians will need to apply for an ETIAS visa waiver which will be obtainable through the online application system,” the statement on etiasvisa.com read.
The visa waiver, it said, will allow Malaysians to travel freely, between countries, around the Schengen Zone – an area comprising 26 European states that have abolished all passport and other types of border control at their mutual borders.
The visa waiver will be valid for three years, or until the ETIAS holder’s passport expires.
“From 2021 onwards, the ETIAS visa waiver will be an obligatory legal requirement for Malaysians when entering the Schengen Zone,” it said
The site said Malaysians need only meet three basic requirements to be eligible for the visa waiver – a valid passport with three months remaining, an email address and a credit or debit card. - FMT
