PH presidential council to discuss seat distribution for Sarawak polls

PPBM president Muhyiddin Yassin says the party is in no hurry to set up branches in all the divisions of Sarawak. On the right is Deputy IGP Mazlan Mansor.
KUCHING: The Pakatan Harapan (PH) presidential council will discuss the distribution of seats for the upcoming Sarawak state elections.
PPBM president Muhyiddin Yassin said he has informed Sarawak PH chairman Chong Chieng Jen about this and the matter will be discussed among the PH component parties at the federal level.
“We need to discuss the allocation of seats and which seats they think are suitable for us (PPBM) to contest,” Muhyiddin said at a press conference here today.
A source had earlier said that Sarawak PPBM had asked for 15 Malay-Melanau majority seats from the state PKR and Amanah to contest in the state elections.
The source also claimed that PKR president Anwar Ibrahim had instructed Sarawak PKR to discuss the allocation of seats at the PH Sarawak council meeting instead of bringing it up at the PH presidential council meeting at the federal level.
Asked how many seats PPBM would contest in the state elections, Muhyiddin said: “We are still working out the figures.”
On the setting up of Sarawak PPBM, he said the Registrar of Societies (RoS) had approved six divisions – at Santubong, Stampin, Sri Aman, Saratok, Kota Samarahan and Bintulu.
“We’ll be setting up another six divisions, making it 12. We’re not in a hurry to set up branches in all 31 divisions as Sarawak is a big state,” he said. - FMT
