8 more Nigerian men arrested over attack on cops

KUALA LUMPUR: Eight more Nigerian men have been arrested in connection with an attack last week on policemen at the Flora Damansara apartments near here that left one policeman injured.
Ten other Nigerain men had already been detained earlier.
The Inspector-General of Police, Abdul Hamid Bador, described the attack as unacceptable. “We will not tolerate such violence. Our investigation is not focused on just one nationality,” he told reporters today.
Three policemen and an officer of the Commercial Crime Investigation Department at Petaling Jaya district headquarters were attacked at 11pm on Thursday while trying to arrest a Nigerian man suspected of being involved in African scams.
One of the policemen suffered injuries in the face.
The incident caught the attention of Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, who said the government would not compromise with anyone who violates the law or obstructs the police in performing their duties.
“I have instructed for a full investigation on those involved and for stern action to be taken as provided by the law. I would like to emphasise that foreigners who come to this country must behave accordingly and abide by the rules of this country,” he said in a statement here today.
Selangor CID chief Fadzil Amat said police would apply for a remand order on the eight Nigerian men and also seek an extension of the remand order on the 10 Nigerian men arrested on the night of the incident. - FMT
