PETALING JAYA: Sabah education officials are investigating a report of a teacher who was alleged to have stapled the ears of a 10-year-old pupil in Likas.
State director of education Misterine Radin confirmed that the department had received a report “regarding a teacher who had kind of injured a student’s ears with the excuse of educating using a stapler”.
It is believed the boy had been punished for not completing his homework.
Officials are to talk to the headmaster, the teacher, parents and the pupil to resolve the matter. “What is certain, this teacher will be sent to counseling,” she said, according to Borneo Post.
Radin said teachers should follow disciplinary rules. “It is not in the rules for us to use staplers, that is one thing. It may be necessary for teachers to avoid harming their students for the purpose of educating,” she was quoted as saying.
Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik said in Kluang yesterday that he was waiting for the investigation report. “We (Education Ministry) want a thorough investigation into the case,” he told reporters. - FMT
