After PAS MP apologises, Kit Siang lands uppercut on Hadi

In the latest round of the long-running Lim Kit Siang versus Abdul Hadi Awang bout, the DAP veteran landed a fresh blow on the PAS president.

He asked if Hadi is prepared to walk in the footsteps of Penang PAS Youth leader Muhammad Fawwaz Mohamad Jan, who apologised over a Facebook posting accusing “infidels of attempting to destroy Islam.”

“Will Hadi follow in the footsteps of Fawwaz for making preposterous allegations which he had not been able to substantiate?” he said, referring to the PAS president’s accusations that DAP has a communist agenda and is propagating Islamophobia.

“Hadi not only sullied the good name of Malaysia in international society but also sullied the good name of DAP with his preposterous allegations that DAP is anti-Malay, anti-Islam, communist, and promoting Islamophobia, which he could not prove with any iota of substantiation.

“As the special envoy to the Middle East to two ‘backdoor’ prime ministers, drawing RM60,000 a month, Hadi should be aware that the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) has an Islamophobia Observatory monitoring Islamophobia on a global and daily basis.

“From the annual reports of the OIC Islamophobia Observatory on Islamophobia since 2007, there is no Islamophobia in Malaysia,” he added.

If the allegations against DAP are true, Lim said this would mean Hadi had been “terribly remiss” in his former duties as special envoy in not reporting Islamophobia in Malaysia to the OIC.

He claimed Hadi’s failure to substantiate his allegations or his unwillingness to apologise would reveal that the PAS president is willing to make all sorts of preposterous allegations to serve his own political ends.

“It is pathetic that Hadi cannot even follow in the footsteps of his own Penang PAS Youth leader,” he added.

Fawwaz, also the MP for Permatang Pauh, had claimed that his Facebook handler had uploaded the post without his knowledge.

He has since forgiven his Facebook administrator and hoped that the issue would not be prolonged. - Mkini
