There seems to be disagreement between PAS spiritual leader Hashim Jasin and others in the party's syura council on whether to accept the appeal of three Perlis ex-assemblypersons whose memberships were voided in December after siding with Bersatu in a state government coup.
In a statement posted on his Facebook post today, Hashim said the syura council during a meeting on Jan 27, had decided to accept the trio's appeal.
The trio are Saad Seman (former Chuping assemblyperson), Fakhrul Anwar Ismail (Bintong), and Ridzuan Hashim (Guar Sanji).
Hashim said the appeal was accepted based on religious principles, noting that all believers are brothers and should be reconciled.
“Allah’s mercy and reconciliation must be prioritised, not fueling anger within the party.
“The Prophet Muhammad’s approach to justice prioritised repentance and opening the door to forgiveness, rather than rushing to punish, as seen in the hadiths regarding al-Ghamidiyyah and Juhainah,” he said.

Hashim further stated that according to Islamic jurisprudence, harm - including leaving people without elected representatives - must be avoided.
In the same post, Hashim stressed that the PAS constitution grants significant authority to the syura council and the spiritual leader.
This provision, he said, is meant to ensure the constitution is upheld in the party’s administration and activities.
He added that the syura council must embody justice, reconciliation, and forgiveness in uniting divided PAS members, particularly in Perlis, to prevent further fragmentation.
“Ulama must not add fuel to the fire of hostility that is already burning,” he said.
However, just an hour after Hashim posted the statement it was removed before it was reposted several hours later, this time accompanied by a video clip of Hashim.
No decision yet
Contrary to the spiritual leader, PAS ulama wing chief Ahmad Yahaya claimed the syura council - which he is also a member of - had not made a decision on the appeal per se, citing that it was outside the council’s jurisdiction.
“(Instead,) it received new membership application forms from the three former assemblypersons and referred them to the PAS secretary-general for consideration by the central leadership,” he said in a Facebook post.

PAS' information committee leader Nurul Islam Yusoff also backed Ahmad’s statement.
“This is the actual decision of the PAS syura council, as confirmed by the ulama council chief who attended the meeting,” he wrote on social media, accompanied by Ahmad’s statement.
Memberships voided
On Dec 24, PAS voided the memberships of Saad, Fakhrul, and Ridzuan for allegedly submitting statutory declarations (SDs) together with Bersatu assemblypersons, that led to the removal of Shukri Ramli as Perlis menteri besar.
This in turn triggered the state's anti-hopping law which saw the trio's seats vacated.
PAS viewed Shukri’s ouster as an act of "betrayal", although Hashim and the Perlis PAS ulama council took a more conciliatory stance, denying that the trio were traitors.
However, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang has been adamant that the decision was final. - FMT
