Zaharudin Muhammad says this is key to ensuring coordinated opposition efforts in Parliament.

Zaharudin said coordination is key as Samsuri also serves as Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman, helping prevent conflicting positions from arising during parliamentary debates.
“This is about the role of opposition leader. On the prime ministership, I remain aligned with spiritual leader Hashim Jasin that Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man (deputy president) or Idris Ahmad (vice-president) are more suitable.
“The opposition leader’s role in Parliament does not affect government administration,” he said in a Facebook post today.
Tuan Ibrahim is the Kubang Kerian MP, while Idris is the Bagan Serai MP.
Zaharudin, who is also the son-in-law of PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, was commenting on a statement by former Bersatu deputy president Hamzah Zainudin that he is willing to step down as opposition leader if a majority of PN MPs support it.
The Larut MP said no single party can decide on the matter alone.
Comparing Hamzah and Samsuri, Zaharudin said the Terengganu chief minister is better suited for the role.
“For me, Samsuri is the better choice for opposition leader because coordination is crucial.
“Otherwise, PN could make decision A in Parliament, while the opposition leader opts for B.”
Zaharudin said his second choice for opposition leader is PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan.
Samsuri had earlier said that PN would name an MP from PAS as its new opposition leader by the end of this month.
Hamzah’s position as opposition leader has been in limbo since his expulsion from Bersatu on Feb 13, at the height of an internal leadership tussle with party president Muhyiddin Yassin.
Last month, Takiyuddin said PN’s component parties had agreed to PAS taking over the opposition leader’s role. - FMT
