'Invitation from a comrade': PKR MP explains attendance at Rafizi event

KUALA LUMPUR: Wangsa Maju member of parliament Zahir Hassan said he attended the event where Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli and Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad announced their exit from PKR to fulfil an "invitation from a comrade".

The PKR lawmaker said he also wanted to listen to what they had to share about their future political direction.

"I respect their decision to vacate their respective parliamentary seats effective May 18 and to resign from PKR on May 19.

"I am confident that the decision they made after careful consideration was not driven by personal interests," he said in a statement.

Zahir was among the PKR members who attended the event where Rafizi and Nik Nazmi, the former PKR deputy president and vice-president respectively, announced they would take over Parti Bersama Malaysia (Bersama).

Yesterday, PKR secretary-general Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh said the party would discuss taking action against several of its MPs who attended the event.

Fuziah also claimed that Rafizi and Nik Nazmi are still bound by a RM10 million PKR bond they signed before the last general election.

Zahir, however, said he did not believe that Rafizi and Nik Nazmi had breached the anti-hopping law or the bond tied to PKR.

He said anyone could study Bersama's agenda, direction, and struggle via its website.

Zahir added that he remained committed to fulfilling his obligations to his Wangsa Maju constituents. - NST
