PETALING JAYA:
Jealousy and unrequited love are believed to have been the motives behind a man allegedly stabbing a woman in the neck while inside a car in front of a restaurant on Jalan Titi Gajah, near Alor Setar, last night.

Kedah police chief Adzli Abu Shah said police were still conducting a detailed investigation to determine the main motive, Bernama reported.

Police are questioning a 32-year-old suspect detained soon after the 35-year-old woman was found stabbed.

Adzli said police were informed about a fight in front of a restaurant at 9.24pm.

The woman was found bleeding from a deep stab wound on the neck in a car, he said, adding that a sharp object like an ice pick, a screwdriver or a Rambo knife could have been used in the attack.

A man fled the scene but police arrested a suspect at a place of worship in Taman Uda, about 6km away.

Adzli said the victim was a single mother while the suspect was a divorcee. They are believed to have known each other for more than a year and both are working in the real estate sector.

“The incident is believed to have happened quickly after they arrived at the restaurant. A few minutes later, the suspect was seen fleeing from the victim’s vehicle towards a nearby padi field.

“The victim’s quick action in honking the car horn attracted the attention of members of the public at the restaurant and initial treatment was given to stop the bleeding.”

He said the victim is in a stable condition.

Adzli said the suspect was found to have a record for an offence of causing grievous hurt to his girlfriend several years ago.

Urine screening results found the suspect negative for any prohibited substances.

He has been remanded for seven days to assist in the investigation. - FMT
