Just resign now, DAP’s Pua dares pro-Rafizi MPs

Tony Pua says not emulating Rafizi Ramli and Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad makes them appear self-serving and prioritising their MP's allowance.

PETALING JAYA:
DAP’s Tony Pua has challenged PKR MPs aligned with former PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli to quit their party and vacate their seats now.

The former Damansara MP said he disagreed with the decision made by Rafizi and former PKR vice-president Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, but maintained that they had the right to chart their own paths.

Nonetheless, he said, other MPs who intend to contest in the next general election on another party’s ticket despite previously being elected as a PKR member should just vacate their seats now.

“Others who actually have the gall to express their intent to stand against their own party in GE16, but do not want to quit/vacate their seats are just (cowardly), self-serving chickens who can’t bear to lose the remaining months of their MP allowance.

“They should be dumped (by voters) regardless of which party they ultimately stand for in the coming elections. In fact, their voters should immediately petition for them to resign from their seats,” he said in a Facebook post.

Pua is chairman of DAP’s disciplinary committee.

Yesterday, former ministers Rafizi and Nik Nazmi announced that they would be taking over Parti Bersama Malaysia to chart a new political direction for themselves and their supporters.

They also announced their resignations as Pandan and Setiawangsa MPs, respectively.

Five PKR MPs – Rodziah Ismail (Ampang), Bakhtiar Wan Chik (Balik Pulau), Wong Chen (Subang), S Kesavan (Sungai Siput) and Zahir Hassan (Wangsa Maju) – appeared in a photo session with the duo.

Another MP who attended the press conference was Lee Chean Chung (Petaling Jaya). - FMT
