KUALA LUMPUR, May 18 — The Dewan Rakyat Speaker’s Office has confirmed it has received the official resignation letters from Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli and Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, formally notifying Parliament of the vacancies for the two federal seats.

According to The Star, an official from the Speaker’s Office confirmed receipt of the notices today in response to media queries. The confirmation follows an earlier joint statement by the two former lawmakers, in which they announced they had submitted their letters to Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul.

“The proper and honourable step is to return the mandate to voters in Pandan and Setiawangsa, considering that we were elected under the Pakatan Harapan ticket in the last general election,” they said in the statement.

Both leaders thanked their constituents for electing them to two terms in Parliament and said their service centres would continue operating as usual to assist voters. They also announced their intention to contest the same seats again in the upcoming election under the Parti Bersama Malaysia (Bersama) platform.

The resignations, which take effect immediately, come after Rafizi and Nik Nazmi announced yesterday that they were leaving PKR to join Bersama, effectively ending their long-standing ties with the party. - malaymail
