The commission says it takes seriously the misuse of network services and online platforms that could undermine social harmony.

It said this prohibition especially applied to material that is provocative, insulting or could trigger public disorder.
The commission said it takes seriously the misuse of network services and online platforms that could undermine social harmony, Bernama reported.
MCMC added that it will work closely with the police and other agencies to monitor, investigate and take action on content that violates the law.
“Offenders may face action under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which carries a fine of up to RM500,000, imprisonment of up to two years, or both,” MCMC said in a statement.
The commission stressed that action will also be taken against platform providers that fail to cooperate and reminded them to comply with the law and prevent misuse of their services.
“The public is advised to verify the authenticity of information before sharing it to avoid misunderstandings or hostility,” it added.
The commission did not cite any specific incidents. However, the statement comes about a week after a Facebook account posted an edited image of a pig in royal attire – a matter now under investigation by Bukit Aman.
Communications minister Fahmi Fadzil said on Wednesday that a fake social media account had been used to post the image, with a forensic analysis under way after a person questioned by the MCMC denied uploading it.
In a separate case, Bersatu assemblyman Dr Aleef Yusof came under fire after he posted a picture of Melaka executive councillor Abdul Razak Abdul Rahman with a dog sticker over his face. Masjid Tanah MP Mas Ermieyati Samsudin said it was unbecoming of Aleef, a Malay-Muslim elected representative, to engage in such behaviour.
Melaka Bersatu information chief Hishamuddin Abdul Karim has apologised over the matter, saying that all leaders and party members must exercise greater caution in their use of social media. - FMT
