Bombs found near Labuan runway, flights disrupted

LABUAN:

Flights from Labuan have been disrupted this evening following the discovery of Second World War bombs 150m from the runway.

A reliable source said the explosives, believed to be World War II-era bombs, were discovered at a slope repair project site at the Kerupang coastal road.

The runway has been temporarily closed while investigations are being carried out, according to a notice issued by the air force at 5pm today, which was posted by Malaysia Airports on Facebook.

The closure has resulted in the cancellation of flights from Labuan to Miri and Kota Kinabalu, while several other arriving and departing flights have been diverted, delayed or are subject to operational changes.

Checks at the airport showed that flights from 4.05pm, 5.15pm, 6.05pm, 6.15pm and 7.25pm destined to Kuala Lumpur, Kota Kinabalu and Miri have been affected. - FMT
