GOMBAK: Traffic on several major highways leading into Kuala Lumpur was slow-moving and congested this afternoon as city dwellers returned following the school holidays and festive break.
The Malaysian Highway Authority (MHA) expects about 2.92 million vehicles to use the country's major highways today.
A check at the Gombak Toll Plaza found traffic building up, particularly from the east coast, with vehicles moving at a slow pace towards the capital.
As of 6pm, congestion was reported on the westbound Kuala Lumpur–Karak Expressway (KLK) from Km55.9 to Km52.2 in Lentang, stretching about 3.7km.
Traffic was also heavy from Km23.5 to the Gombak Toll Plaza, covering another 3.7km, due to the increasing volume of vehicles heading into Kuala Lumpur.
However, traffic on the East Coast Expressway 1 (LPT1) remained smooth in both directions.
Traffic volume is expected to remain high tomorrow, with an estimated 2.73 million vehicles forecast to use major highways nationwide as travellers continue returning home ahead of the new school term and working week. - NST
