KUALA LUMPUR: The eVisa issue involving a Mara-sponsored student scheduled to study at King's College London (KCL), United Kingdom (UK), has been resolved.
Mara chairman Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the student would leave for the UK on Saturday to begin his studies as planned.
He said Mara had taken immediate action to ensure the student could continue his studies without further disruption.
"Mara takes full responsibility for ensuring the welfare and continuity of education of its sponsored students.
"The eVisa issue was a temporary technical matter and has been resolved through immediate action with the relevant parties.
"Mara has also arranged a new flight ticket to enable the student to continue his journey to the UK," he told reporters after the pre-launch of the Mara Automotive Ecosystem (Matec) 2026 at Busana Mara here today.
Asyraf said Mara remained committed to ensuring all its sponsored students pursuing studies at leading universities worldwide under the Young Talent Programme (YTP) received the necessary support to begin their studies.
"Mara makes a significant investment in developing these students, including providing more than a year of preparation before they continue their studies.
"Therefore, every matter that could disrupt their studies will be given immediate attention and action by Mara," he said.
He said Mara would continue to monitor the student's journey until he arrived at KCL.
It would also ensure all matters related to his studies could proceed according to schedule.
"Mara understands the concerns that have arisen and gives an assurance that follow-up action has been taken to ensure the issue does not affect the student's opportunity to continue his studies.
"Mara remains committed to ensuring investment in talent development through the YTP continues by providing support and solutions to students facing any issue that could affect the smooth continuation of their studies," he said.
The issue involving Mara-sponsored student Muhammad Naqiuddin Fitri went viral on social media after he was unable to depart for the UK last Sunday as scheduled.
He was due to begin his studies at KCL but could not board his flight after his eVisa was cancelled during the check-in process at Kuala Lumpur International Airport. - NST
