Gov't seeks approval for RM7.12b supplementary budget



PARLIAMENT | The federal government is seeking parliamentary approval for an additional RM7.12 billion to supplement its 2017 budget.
In the Supplementary Supply (2017) Bill 2018, that was tabled for its first reading in the Dewan Rakyat today, it said this is to cover “additional expenditure on the services and purposes” already specified in the 2017 Budget, but were not fully provided for.
The Bill was tabled by Finance Minister II Johari Abdul Ghani.
The supplementary budget will cover a total of 16 items, of which the largest is a RM2.71 billion contribution to statutory funds.
The next largest is for the Education and Home Ministries, which would be allocated an additional RM891 million and RM804 million respectively.
Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak had previously announced an allocation of RM260.8 billion for the 2017 Budget.
Other ministries and statutory bodies to receive additional allocations are the Agriculture, Health, Higher Education, Women's, Domestic Trade, Foreign, Communications and Human Resources Ministries, the Public Service Department, the Election Commission, the MACC, the Prime Minister’s Department, and the Parliament. -Mkini
