Question Najib to find 1MDB-Jho Low link, IGP told

DAP stalwart Lim Kit Siang has urged the police to question Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak in attempt to uncover links between state investment fund 1MDB and controversial tycoon Jho Low.

In a statement today, Lim pointed out that police have yet to even interview Najib, who chairs 1MDB's advisory board, in their probe.

He was commenting on inspector-general of police Mohamad Fuzi Harun's statement yesterday that ongoing police investigations had not linked Jho Low to 1MDB.

"All that the IGP needs to do to find the nexus between Jho Low and 1MDB is to interview the Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, who as chairperson of the 1MDB's board of advisors, exercised the final power on all important decisions in 1MDB.

"Have the police interviewed Najib about 1MDB, and has Najib denied that there were any links between Jho Low and 1MDB?" asked Lim, adding that any comments from Najib would have made international headlines.

The IGP had announced that investigations so far have established that Jho Low, or Low Taek Jho, had never worked with 1MDB, and that all the company's decisions were made by its board of directors and management.

"The police probe on 1MDB is still ongoing, but based on statements and our probe so far, there is nothing concrete to link Low Taek Jho with 1MDB's business decisions," said Fuzi.

The IGP's statement came following the seizure of the Equanimity superyacht linked to Jho Low in Bali last week.

Lim also took a swipe at BN leaders who defended Najib and dismissed allegations of money-laundering linked to 1MDB.

In particular, the Gelang Patah MP cited Communications and Multimedia Minister Salleh Said Keruak's assertion that there was no evidence that the Equanimity was owned by Jho Low.

He also rapped Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Razali Ismail, who had dismissed claims that the superyacht was bought using 1MDB funds.

"Can the prime minister speak up to throw light on the 1MDB matter before things get murkier, and Malaysians have to hang their heads further down in shame and humiliation over the 1MDB scandal and Malaysia as a global kleptocracy?" said Lim. -Mkini
