Selangor government leaders from Pakatan Harapan and Selangor PAS will be holding separate rallies in Shah Alam tomorrow to commemorate their 10 years in power.
Over at Stadium Melawati, a voluntary outfit called "Team Selangor" will be hosting the "Karnival Himpunan Rakyat: Membangun Bangsa Memakmurkan Selangor".
The carnival will kick off at 9 am with games and performances culminating with presentations from several top state office bearers on "Selangor's success story".
A source indicated that Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali (below) was expected to explain why the proper administration of Selangor - being a microcosm of Malaysia - was important for the country.
"We expect him to convey why continuity of the 42-point initiative “Peduli Rakyat” (IPR) schemes which include free water, subsidised healthcare, micro-credit schemes among others are important not only for Selangor, but the country," said the source who is close to the event organisers.
According to the itinerary for the event, no one from PAS, who have three seats in the state cabinet, are scheduled to speak.
Meanwhile, about 10km away, PAS will be gathering at the smaller JKR stadium at dusk for their prayer and ceramah event.
PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang has been listed as the main speaker of the event followed by Selangor PAS chief Sallehen Mukhyi and state cabinet member Iskandar Abdul Samad.
Showing gratitude
According to Selangor PAS elections director Roslan Shahir Mohd Shahir, the event was meant to serve as thanksgiving for PAS being ten years in the Selangor government.
"The main purpose is to show our “syukur” (gratitude to God) over PAS' ability to last (ten years in government) despite certain incidents in recent times," he told Malaysiakini.
IPAS has been holding a series of rallies, known as “fastaqim”, throughout the country with the Selangor leg held in Kuala Selangor in January. Organisers claim it attracted 10,000 people.
PAS has remained part of the Selangor government despite having broken off ties with PKR and DAP, which make up approximately two-thirds of the government bench in the legislative assembly.
For the upcoming general election, PAS is looking to field candidates for 43 of the 56 legislative assembly seats and is thus headed for a collision course with its former allies. -Mkini
