Sepang MP explains his meagre savings

Amanah's Sepang MP Hanipa Maidin explained today his meagre savings after his wealth came under scrutiny following an asset declaration that showed he only has RM900 in the bank.
"Honestly, I declared what was required - telling the truth. It so happened, during the declaration, I only had RM900 in my Maybank account. So I declared RM900.
"If I had RM2.6 billion or RM900 million, I would declare that figure.
"I really don't have savings, stocks, insurance, credit card or fixed deposit. So I only declared what I have," he said in a Facebook posting.
Hanipa said following the asset declaration, he had been attacked by rival party PAS, which he sarcastically described as "sacred group".
"Some say that I am wasteful and other things.
"Others say that I have two houses worth RM1 million. That is the value of the properties but they are tied to loans - the reality is I don't own them yet," he said.
Hanipa said ultimately, it was not about how much asset an MP has but the fact that they declare them.
Yesterday, Hanipa was among 36 MPs and potential election candidates who declared their assets as part of an initiative by PKR-linked think tank Invoke.
According to the declaration, Hanipa makes RM25,000 a month as an MP and also receives a monthly allowance of RM10,000 as a lawyer.
However, his monthly expenditure for his home loan instalments, Honda CR-V car, contributions to his constituents and party, utility bills, spousal support and operational cost for his legal firm amounted to RM26,600. -Mkini
