Bersatu chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad today sarcastically described his party as having few members and being led by inexperienced people, which include a 92-year-old.
Yet, Mahathir said Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak feared this party, which is facing the risk of deregistration by the Registrar of Societies.
"Since we were formed, we are a young party with few members and poorly led by people with no experience, who is a 92-year-old.
"But Najib wants to paralyse this party. They are trying to find fault with us," he told a press conference after chairing the Pakatan Harapan presidential council meeting at the opposition leader's office in Parliament today.
However, Mahathir was coy about Bersatu's plan in the 14th general election if it is deregistered.
When pressed if Bersatu would contest under the banner of its allies, Mahathir joke that he may pick DAP and perhaps even lead the party.
"I am open. I can stand for DAP and even maybe (become) the president of DAP," he said, prompting laughter from other Harapan leaders.
Mahathir then prodded DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng on whether he agreed.
Lim merely shrugged, to which Mahathir said he took as a "yes".
Lim then replied: "We will think about it". -Mkini
