GE14 | Bersih has urged voters who have been queuing at polling stations not to budge even after 5pm, which is the stipulated time for the voting period to end.
“Please ensure you are allowed to vote even after 5.00pm. Do not go away even if the Election Commission (EC) says you are too late.
“If you are already there and in the queue before 5.00pm, EC must allow you to vote and cannot ask you to leave.
“Stay and insist on your right to vote. It is not your fault for them being too slow,” said the movement in a statement this afternoon.
The electoral watchdog urged voters to snap photographs if the queues remained long at 5pm and to take down the names of the EC officials who refuse to allow them to cast their ballots.
The movement said voters should send the photographs and names to aduan.pemantau.org as this would be important to initiate legal action against the EC later.
Bersih also urged all candidates, candidates' agents, polling and counting agents as well as lawyers to be at the polling stations to assist voters who are still queuing.
“They must be given the right to vote,” said the movement. - Mkini
