Dr M denies political agenda behind intention to visit Nik Aziz's grave

GE14 | Pakatan Harapan chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad has denied the existence of a political agenda behind his intention to visit the grave of former PAS spiritual leader Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat.
“I do not want to politicise the visit to a grave.
“Yesterday, I visited the grave of (former PAS president) Fadzil Noor (in Kedah).
“He was my friend before he joined PAS. He gave me a lot of religious advice,” he told reporters in Kota Bharu this afternoon.
The former premier said he would visit Nik Aziz's grave after the general election if he is in Kelantan again.
This morning, one of Nik Aziz's sons, Nik Adli, had gathered with supporters outside the grave to prevent Mahathir from visiting.
Malaysiakini had spotted that the gate leading to the grave was locked while a lorry blocked the main entrance.
Nik Adli said his family was against Mahathir visiting the grave at this juncture on the grounds that it could be politically motivated.
He added that the former premier was welcome to visit his father's grave after the general election.

Nik Adli was detained under the Internal Security Act in 2001 on alleged involvement in terrorism when Mahathir was prime minister.
In a letter to his son then, the venerated PAS leader, who passed away in February 2015, urged Nik Adli to be patient and condemned those who used the ISA as having sinned for violating the dignity of humans.
Mahathir and Nik Aziz had often traded barbs in the past, with the latter calling on the former premier to repent before it is too late. - Mkini
