KUALA LUMPUR: MIC and MCA have pledged to remain in the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition to bring about necessary changes to tackle future political challenges.
MIC president Dr S Subramaniam said the BN component parties had to agree to make changes by taking into account their weaknesses in order to remain relevant.
He said BN needed to be a good opposition pact to regain the support of the people, adding that MIC might consider other options if BN’s changes did not materialise.
“Today, we (MIC) are still part of BN… we feel BN needs to reform to rise up to current challenges, and we will see if that reform happens and we can be relevant to political challenges.
“Otherwise, we will be looking for (other) options,” he told reporters after attending a special meeting of the BN Supreme Council at Menara Dato’ Onn last night.
Meanwhile, MCA president Liow Tiong Lai said all component parties would carry out a post-mortem to identify and correct their weaknesses.
“BN is still intact… those who are in BN, we have to go through these changes together,” he said. -FMT
