The PKR president says Anwar Ibrahim should regain his health before participating in political activities.
KUALA LUMPUR: PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail says the party’s de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim will need time to recuperate before returning to active politics.
Wan Azizah, who is Anwar’s wife, also called for space to be given to ensure the smooth and peaceful transition of power to the new Pakatan Harapan government.
“Let him regain his health first and allow the transition process to go smoothly before he returns to participate (in political activities).
“Alhamdulillah, his health is getting better and (we are) waiting for his release to celebrate Ramadan with family members and perform the tarawikh prayers,” she told reporters here yesterday.
Wan Azizah, who has been announced as the deputy prime minister, said Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad had personally informed her that the Pardons Board would be meeting on Wednesday to obtain the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s consent for Anwar’s release from jail.
She had earlier visited Anwar, who is undergoing treatment at the Cheras Rehabilitation Hospital.
Anwar, who is serving a five-year jail sentence, was initially scheduled to be released on June 8. -FMT
