Prime minister-designate Dr Mahathir Mohamad has reiterated his government would rollback or abolish the implementation of the GST and bring back the sales and service tax (SST).
At a press conference today, Mahathir was asked whether he will roll back the GST which was part of Harapan's election pledges.
"We will revert back to the SST," he said in a curt reply.
Harapan had promised to abolish GST within 100 days of taking office.
On whether a Harapan federal government will lead to the perception that there will be an erosion of Malay and bumiputera rights, Mahathir said all Harapan component parties have signed an agreement to uphold the Federal Constitution.
"The constitution is a comprehensive document stating the role of religion, languages the ties between Malays, non-Malays and others. We have all signed (an agreement) to uphold the constitution.
"However, MCA and MIC never signed (such a) document," he quipped. - Mkini
