PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution has urged supporters arriving in Kuala Lumpur to remain calm amid delays in the release of party de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim.
Saifuddin said supporters from across the country had begun arriving in anticipation of the Pardons Board meeting tomorrow but this has been pushed back to Wednesday.
"I urge supporters, whom I understand have begun arriving from across the country, to be patient," he told journalists at the Cheras Rehabilitation Hospital in Kuala Lumpur.
Anwar is presently serving a jail term for sodomy, a charge he claimed is politically motivated. He is held at the hospital pending recovery from a shoulder surgery.
Anwar is expected to be released on the same day of the Pardons Board meeting on Wednesday, which also happens to be the first day of Ramadan.
"We have already mobilised supporters for the first day of Ramadan where Anwar will also deliver a speech," he said.
Supporters are expected to gather at the hospital to welcome Anwar.
Asked about the delay, Saifuddin said it was done at the request of the Prime Minister's Office (PMO).
"I spoke with the legal division of the PMO and they confirmed that the documentation is complete.
"We see it as a normal as the Pardons Board may need some time.
"I am optimistic that (the meeting) will happen at 11am on Wednesday and we will be able to welcome Anwar," he said. - Mkini
