Selangor folk hope new MB will continue Azmin's initiatives

The people and residents of Selangor are hopeful that the newSelangor menteri besar will continue to pursue the administrative excellence implemented by Mohamed Azmin Ali.

Generally, those met by Bernama were of the opinion that the ‘People Care’ programmes introduced by Mohamed Azmin when leading the state government managed to maintain Selangor as the most advanced state in Malaysia.

Among the programmes implemented were 'Health Care Scheme' which provided free healthcare services for the people of Selangor with household income of RM3,000 and below, ‘Smart Selangor Mother’s Love’ which helped reduce the burden of the expenditures of mothers from the low-income group (B40) and 'Selangorku Home Scheme' that enabled those qualified to apply to own a home with a maximum value of RM250,000.

At the same time, they also emphasised on some improvements that could be made by the new menteri besar and some approaches that could be taken to safeguard the welfare of the people.

Selangor Fishermen's Association chairman Aziz Selamat hoped the new menteri besar would ensure more frequent enforcement at sea to prevent encroachments of fishing zones as well as curb intrusions by foreign fishermen.

He also hoped that the state government would impose a low Temporary Occupation License (TOL) charge on fishery jetties in Selangor.

"Previously, the state government planned to charge TOL and we hope that it will be reasonable because we are not a high-income group. We also hope that all subsidies and facilities provided to the fishermen in the past are either maintained or increased," he said, representing nearly 6,000 fishermen in Selangor.

Klang’s Entrepreneurs Association of Little India Klang, chairman N.P. Raman urged the new menteri besar to upgrade its business centre at Jalan Tengku Kelana, Klang, to attract more visitors and tourists from within and outside the country.

He said at the moment many improvements needed to be done in the area including due to non-functioning street lights, flash flood problems, lack of parking space and absence of closed-circuit television (CCTV).

"We want CCTV to be installed in this area as there are so many cases of snatch thefts. And flash floods occur during heavy rains causing water to enter the outlets and making Jalan Tengku Kelana one way so cars can be parked on left and right side of the road as this area lacks parking facility.

He said the Little India area, which housed 250 traders and received about one million tourists from within and outside the country every month, has historical value and is able to contribute to state revenue.

Meanwhile, Nuur Rasyiqah Zainuddin, 37, had suggested that anyone who was appointed as Selangor Menteri Besar should give priority to the development of human capital such as providing free tuitions for UPSR and SPM candidates.

"Expenditures under the state budget have to give priority to this because good education can help generate income for the people of Selangor. In addition, it is necessary to immediately solve the water issue as it is very disturbing every time there is a water supply disruption," said the civil servant who had been residing in Shah Alam since 1988.

An engineer, Dinna Geraldine Ramlan, 37, wanted the new menteri besar to redouble efforts to reduce crime in Selangor.

In the economic aspect, she suggested that Selangor promoted service-based jobs such as design, consultancy, information technology and finance.

"I think it's time we give priority to services and not selling goods or products, because Malaysia has made a lot of consumer products. For services, capital is only spent for manpower. This is a concept practised by Singapore and I think Selangor can apply the same concept, "said Dinna who is staying in Shah Alam.
