MCA deputy president Wee Ka Siong claims the results of the 1MDB probe were never presented to former premier Najib Razak's cabinet at the time.
Distancing the party from the 1MDB scandal, Wee in an interview with Sin Chew Daily yesterday said he hopes the new Pakatan Harapan government will declassify the related cabinet minutes to reveal what MCA leaders had to say about the matter.
He told the Chinese daily there was a cabinet meeting on the decision to instruct the auditor-general to investigate 1MDB and hand the findings to the public accounts committee (PAC).
However, Wee said, the findings from this probe were never presented to cabinet.
Another meeting, he recalled, saw the cabinet questioning 1MDB's management on its plans to handle the company's debts.
"I hope what I said (during those meetings) would be revealed. Once it's declassified, we can talk about it.
"I am not worried about them (the government) making it public," he said.
In the interview about the party's future in BN, Wee said MCA would no longer take the blame for Umno's follies, following the party's humiliating showing at the 14th general election that saw them winning only one parliamentary seat. -Mkini
