Blogger Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris, better known as Papagomo, will be contesting for a spot in the Umno Youth's executive committee lineup.
Wan Muhammad Azri, who is a Wangsa Maju Umno member, made the announcement in a Facebook posting last night.
He will be running with the tagline, "courageous, responsible, sacrifice".
The 35-year-old is best known for the defamation suit PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim filed against him in 2013.
A year later, the High Court in Kuala Lumpur found him to have maliciously defamed Anwar, and he was ordered to pay the opposition leader RM800,000 in damages.
Late payments eventually racked up the final amount to RM951,260.27, which the blogger paid off last December after collecting funds from Wangsa Maju Umno, and through fundraisers.
Wan Muhammad Azri had also intended to contest the Pandan parliamentary seat in last month's general election, against Deputy Prime Minister Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, but pulled out of the race to give way to MCA's chosen candidate Leong Kok Wee.
Umno Youth is slated to hold its elections on June 23, together with the party's Puteri and Wanita wings. -Mkini
