Setev Shaariibuu, the father of murdered Mongolian national Altantuya, will meet attorney-general Tommy Thomas tomorrow at 3pm in Putrajaya.
Ramkarpal Singh, the lawyer representing Setev, said the purpose of the meeting is to request the AG to reopen the case of her murder which happened in October 2006.
“We will meet the press at my Kuala Lumpur office tomorrow at 5pm, after the meeting with the AG,” Ramkarpal told Malaysiakini.
Setev’s visit follows Australian immigration detainee Sirul Azhar Umar who may be deported back to Malaysia after his death sentence is commuted to life imprisonment.
Sirul, who fled to Australia but was detained by the immigration, was willing to travel back if he were accorded a full royal pardon in Malaysia.
He had declined the possibility of life imprisonment, saying he preferred to remain in Australia, where he is currently detained at the Villawood Detention Centre in Sydney.
Sirul even denied killing the Mongolian woman, saying he had handed her over to his colleague Azilah Hadri, at the murder scene near Shah Alam on the night of Oct 19, 2006.
In 2015, Sirul and Azilah were sentenced to death for Altantuya’s murder.
At the time, the duo were bodyguards to then deputy prime minister Najib Abdul Razak.
Azilah is presently on death row in prison, but Sirul fled to Australia three years ago.
The previous BN government did not extradite him, citing Australian law which does not recognise the death sentence.
Calls to reopen the Altantuya case emerged after Pakatan Harapan replaced BN as the federal government.
