PKR president-elect Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to visit Kuching and Sibu on Sept 8 to meet Sarawak governor Abdul Taib Mahmud and Chief Minister Abang Johari Abang Openg.
Anwar's itinerary for the one-day visit was listed in a press statement issued by one Jenny Chiew, who claimed to be the chair of the "organising committee" for the trip – despite Sarawak PKR saying that they have no knowledge of who Chiew is.
Some of the contents of the statement were confirmed by Julau MP Larry Sng, who told Malaysiakini that PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah will accompany Anwar on his visit, his first to Sarawak since his May 16 release.
An unnamed aide also confirmed Anwar's courtesy calls to Taib and Abang Johari in the afternoon, before a meeting with PKR members at the Hilton Kuching and at a dinner in the Kingwood Hotel Sibu – as listed by Chiew in her statement.
"Anwar will be meeting the PKR members in Kuching first.
"He will attend the dinner later in Sibu to address the party's divisional leaders and members of the public who bought tickets to the event," the aide said.
'Who is Jenny Chiew?'
However, Sarawak PKR communications director Vernon Kedit stressed that Chiew is unknown to the party, and has no standing to issue statements on their behalf.
"Sarawak PKR does not recognise who this Jenny Chiew is, and what her locus standi is to issue such a statement on behalf of the party.
"The press and media are advised to disregard any such press statements pertaining to PKR events released by unknown persons or not sanctioned by PKR Sarawak or its official office bearers.
"As far as PKR Sarawak is concerned, we have only one official programme which is to be held in Sibu as announced earlier," he said in a statement. - Mkini
