HADI HINTS OF GIVING ANWAR ‘WALKOVER’ AFTER RECENT BY-ELECTION LOSSES: ‘WE HAVE WON, WE HAVE LOST… WE’RE NOT TOO WORRIES BECAUSE WE WILL STAND ONLY IN A SEAT WHERE THERE’S A REASON FOR US TO CONTEST’ – PAS CHIEF

KUALA TERENGGANU – PAS is taking a wait and see approach before it decides on whether to appoint a candidate to stand in an expected parliamentary by-election to facilitate Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s political comeback.
However, even with a popular candidate like PKR president-elect Anwar set to contest, PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang said the party is not worried about the outcome.
“We have won, we have lost, we have won just a single seat, and we have formed state governments.
“We’re not too worried about where we will contest because we will stand only in a seat where there is a reason for us to contest,” he said.
Abdul Hadi said this at a press conference on the sidelines of the launch of the first Wakaf supermarket in Dungun on Tuesday (Sept 11).
The supermarket, which is being built with funds collected from PAS members and the public is expected to be completed in two years’ time.
Abdul Hadi added that the Islamist party will continue to make the necessary preparations to face the upcoming by-election.
“And if it is a place where it makes sense for others to contest, we will see if it makes sense for us to help them,” he said.
It was speculated that the by-election to mark Anwar’s return could happen in Pandan but PKR secretary-general, Datuk Saifuddin Nasution Ismail refuted the notion.
Several PKR MPs across the peninsula had offered to step aside to allow Anwar to contest and make his long-awaited return to Parliament.
The Star reported on Tuesday quoting top sources that Anwar will contest a seat in Negri Sembilan.
Danyal Balagopal Abdullah, MP for Port Dickson is the only PKR parliamentary representative from the state.
The actual seat where Anwar would stand as a candidate is expected to be revealed when he returns from Hong Kong on Wednesday (Sept 12).
