Jamal Yunos has made an appeal to the Attorney-General Tommy Thomas to acquit him from legal charges.
Accompanied by his lawyers Imran Thamrin and Sulaiman Ismail, the Umno man arrived at the AG's office at Presint 4, Putrajaya, about 3pm today to hand his letter of appeal to have three charges against him dropped.
Officer Wasri Ahmad Sujani received the letter on behalf of Thomas.
Unlike past events which were organised by Jamal, there was no crowd of supporters to cheer for him this time.
However, a team of police, including auxiliary police personnel, was present to monitor the event.
The letter which was sighted by Malaysiakini showed that Jamal was appealing to be acquitted from two charges under Section 448 of the Penal Code for trespassing, and a charge under Section 224 of the Penal Code for escaping or resisting police custody.
In the letter, he claimed that the charges against him were politically motivated, and he was moved to make the appeal following the acquittal of charges against Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng.
Speaking to reporters later, Jamal called for the public to support Thomas whom he described as "kind-hearted and generous".
"To me, the appointment of Thomas as the AG by the (Pakatan) Harapan government is fitting and timely because these past few months, he has been generous to free certain individuals such as Rafizi (Ramli), Lim Guan Eng, Tony Pua, (R) Sivarasa, and many others.
"I would like to take this opportunity and appeal to the AG to retract the cases which I am facing," he said.
Jamal urged those who have been charged, both locals and non-Malaysians, to appeal to the AG to have their cases dropped as well.
"This includes our former prime minister Najib (Abdul Razak). I urge him to do the same," he said.
Meanwhile, Jamal's lawyer Imran Thamrin said it is up to the AG to review the appeal.
