PETALING JAYA: Lawyer Muhammad Shafee Abdullah and Baling MP Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim will be hauled to court by the widow of a private investigator for alleged contempt of court.
According to a source, A Santamil Selvi is also dragging an unidentified medical doctor, who allegedly issued a false medical certificate, to court for contempt.
Selvi is the widow of private investigator P Balasubramaniam, better known as PI Bala.
The source added that Selvi’s lawyers would file an application to first get permission from the High Court against the trio.
“Once leave is obtained, the three will be asked to respond to Selvi’s contempt proceedings,” the source told FMT.
The leave application is expected to be filed this week before judge Hue Siew Kheng.
On Saturday, Malaysiakini reported that carpet dealer Deepak Jaikishian had lodged a police report against Shafee, his former lawyer, and Azeez alleging their interference in the suit filed by Selvi over the murder of Altantuya Shaariibuu.
Deepak, according to the portal, alleged that he was forced to take Shafee — who was recently charged with money laundering — as his lawyer at the instruction of former prime minister Najib Razak.
“Shafee was forced upon me by the sheer might of the former prime minister and his family, who used government departments and government-linked financial institutions to pressure me to succumb to their demands through intimidations and threats,” he said in the report sighted by Malaysiakini.
The news portal also reported Deepak as saying that Shafee and Azeez had acted on Najib’s instructions and prevented him from being cross-examined over his conflicting defence statements on three occasions.
According to Malaysiakini, the Kuala Lumpur High Court had on Feb 6 allowed Deepak to be cross-examined over the defence statements — one which he gave to Americk Sidhu, Selvi’s lawyer on Oct 26 last year, and another filed by Shafee’s firm on Nov 7.
Deepak also alleged that he was forced by Shafee to be admitted to a government hospital (on March 19), a private hospital (March 27) and a private hospital in New Delhi (April 13), the portal reported.
Malaysiakini reported that Deepak further claimed that prior to the March 19 cross-examination, Shafee told him not to appear in court “as he did not want to give false testimony during the cross-examination”. -FMT
