Adopt cashless payment model to stop corruption: Dr M

The government wants to widen the use of cashless payment systems as this would help hinder corruption and in turn help reduce the rakyat's cost of living, said Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
He elaborated that every financial transaction through a cashless system would be recorded and thus the authorities would be able to track down those who commit corruption.
"The government is looking at ways to introduce the cashless system (towards being) a cashless society.
"When we use cash, sometimes the cash is used for bribes and such. So when we go cashless, it would be hard for them to give a bribe to anyone as everything would be recorded.
"Every single transaction will be recorded by the banks and other systems and thus we would be able to tell who had been giving bribes and who received them," he said.
The premier was speaking at the launch of the “My100” and “My50” Unlimited Travel Pass initiative at KL Sentral, Kuala Lumpur this morning.
Mahathir said rampant corruption would cause a steep rise in the rakyat's cost of living and this is what the government was trying to overcome through various initiatives.
