Declare your assets if you want to join PPBM, Syed Saddiq tells ex-Umno leaders

PUTRAJAYA: PPBM Youth is demanding stringent requirements to be imposed on former Umno leaders who want to join the party, including for them to declare their assets.
The wing’s chief, Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, said these former leaders must apologise to the rakyat, apart from being vetted for any wrongdoings.
“I won’t allow the Umno culture to seep into PPBM.
“What’s the point of welcoming ex-Umno members if they are out to seek fame and fortune?
“PPBM is not that kind of party,” he said when delivering his policy speech at the party’s AGM here today.
Syed Saddiq, who is also the youth and sports minister, said PPBM should not be perceived as Umno 2.0, with many of the party’s members defecting to PPBM.
Following the disastrous performance by Barisan Nasional in the May 9 polls, several Umno leaders have quit the party and have either joined PPBM or expressed the desire to do so.
This includes Jeli MP Mustapa Mohamed and former Puteri Umno chief Mas Ermieyati Samsudin. Earlier this month, former Melaka chief minister Abdul Rahim Thamby Chik submitted his membership form to join PPBM.
He cautioned that tolerating the Umno culture and practising it, even on the sly, would lead to PPBM’s fall.
“We are PPBM, not Umno. If they want to practise gutter politics, let them be. We are better than that. We cannot trample on our values for the sake of winning an election.
“We would fail if we were to be another Umno.”
The Muar MP went on to warn the delegates against treachery by attempting to oust a leader through the back door.
PPBM Youth, he said, must go through the proper channels if they were unhappy with their respective division chiefs.
“I am aware there are those who are dissatisfied with the youth wing and are covertly trying to topple PPBM Youth division leaders.”
He went on to remind the central leadership to not sideline the youth wing, arguing this was one reason that led to Umno’s fall. - FMT
