Muhyiddin blames PAS, Umno for unrest among Muslims

PPBM president Muhyiddin Yassin says the Malay rulers are still heads of Islam and Jakim is ‘standing tall’ despite what the opposition had been claiming.
PUTRAJAYA: PPBM president Muhyiddin Yassin, on the eve of party’s first annual general meeting (AGM) after the May 9 polls, slammed PAS and Umno, alleging they were “fanning racial sentiments” and inciting Malays to go against the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government.
“Their political capital today has not differed,” Muhyiddin said tonight, adding that the PH leadership had agreed to always support and respect the role of Islam as the official religion of the state, as spelt out in the Federal Constitution.
“They spread lies as if Muslims are no longer safe in Malaysia, the position of the Malay rulers as heads of Islam would be affected, Jakim (Malaysian Islamic Development Department) would be done away with, and laws to allow LGBT culture and same-sex marriage would be passed in Parliament.”
But all these have been proven to be wrong, he said.
Muhyiddin said the Malay rulers are still heads of Islam, Jakim is “standing tall”, and it is “impossible” for Muslim and non-Muslim MPs to ever accept LGBT culture as it is “at odds with their own religious teachings”.
“Umno and PAS continue to play up racial and religious issues to tarnish the PH government in the eyes of those who profess Islam,” he said.
“This is an extremely unhealthy practice.
“Apart from poisoning the minds of Muslims with lies, the excessive use of religion for narrow political reasons will incite hate among the multiracial and multi-religious communities in Malaysia.
“So, for the Muslims, especially, be careful with the lies that have been peddled by Umno and PAS.”
Muhyiddin was speaking at the opening of the meetings of the PPBM Youth and Srikandi (women’s) wings AGMs at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre here. The AGM proper will start tomorrow night.
Meanwhile, Muhyiddin, who is the home minister, said Umno and PAS should not “daydream” about winning any upcoming elections if they keep this up, saying “the Malays know who these two are”.
“These two are ‘dua kali lima sahaja’ (the same).”
Muhyiddin added that in the past when Umno was still in power, PAS and Umno used  “many Islamic terms” to justify their newfound alliance as if they were “united” in fighting for Islam.
Referring to the 1MDB scandal, Muhyiddin said PAS leaders had said they were satisfied with the explanations provided. “I don’t know what to say now.”
Muhyiddin said this newfound relationship with Umno would not last, adding PAS “only cares for itself” and “does not practise the true teachings of Islam”.
Muhyiddin said while PPBM doesn’t use “Islamic slogans”, the party is determined to combat corruption and improve the country’s economy, which is in line with Islamic teachings.
He reiterated PPBM’s stance that the rights of the Malays would not diminish and the power entrusted by the people to the party would not be misused.
The Pagoh MP also called for party unity and to “give space” to PPBM chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who is also the prime minister, to “heal” the country” and take Malaysia to greater heights. - FMT
