Current and incoming IGPs to meet over vacant top posts

KUALA LUMPUR: Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun will hold a meeting with his successor Comm Datuk Seri Abdul Hamid Bador on the appointments of several top brass at Bukit Aman.
Once Comm Abdul Hamid takes over as the Inspector General of Police (IGP), the Deputy Inspector General and Special Branch director position will be vacant.
MOhamad Fuzi, who is set to retire as IGP on Saturday, said he would have a meeting with Comm Abdul Hamid and Bukit Aman Management director Comm Datuk Abd Rahim Jaafar on the matter on Thursday (April 2).
"Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has already announced that Comm Abdul Hamid will be taking over as the Inspector General when I retire, and many of us have been waiting for the announcement.

"The announcement has given us enough time to prepare for a smooth transition of power.

"My only hope is that the top brass here will continue to give him the same support they showed to me while I was leading," he told reporters after launching the PDRM Mess Book at Bukit Aman.
A Malay daily recently reported former IGP Tan Sri Musa Hassan as saying that Comm Abdul Hamid's strict and high-integrity nature could cause others in the force to fear him.
However, Mohamad Fuzi said he was confident everyone would accept the government's decision on Comm Abdul Hamid's appointment, adding that he was capable of performing his duties to the best of his abilities to carry on the legacy and responsibilities as the top man in the force.
The out-going IGP said he was happy and looking forward to his retirement.
Abdul Hamid is expceted to take charge of the force for two years, starting May 4.
In a statement, Home Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the 60-year-old Abdul Hamid was a capable candidate to lead the force.
"The years of experience under his belt will guide Abdul Hamid, as he shoulders this new responsibility," he said.
Before being named the new IGP, Abdul Hamid was the director of the force's Special Branch and is currently acting deputy IGP. - Star
