No one will be spared police action if they are found to be involved in spreading terrorist ideologies in the country, warned top cop Abdul Hamid Bador.
Abdul Hamid (above) said this included those promoting Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) understanding.
He said this when asked to comment on the resurfacing of an old video featuring Penang Deputy Chief Minister II P Ramasamy and LTTE supporters.
“That is an old video. I will take the necessary action. There are many other cases, not just involving this video.
“(After this) no more warning. I will take action against any instigation involving race, religion and royal institution.
“I am confident police will act fairly,” the inspector-general of police said.
Elaborating further, Abdul Hamid said the issue surrounding the alleged pro-LTTE video has already been investigated and forwarded to the ministry level.
“A decision will be made shortly as, if true, the act of glorifying international terrorist organisations is not appropriate with our country,” he added.
The IGP told reporters this after visiting the General Operations Camp with de facto law minister Liew Vui Keong in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur, today.
The duo earlier attended a briefing and consultation session on the formation of the Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission (IPCMC).
Police began investigations in July last year after an old video that was being circulated featured Ramasamy (above) and Indian pro-LTTE politician V Gopalasamy.
This sparked allegations about the DAP politician's ties with the LTTE.
The LTTE, or more commonly referred to as the Tamil Tigers, is a Sri Lanka-based group which has been classified as a terrorist organisation by several countries.
The Perai assemblyperson, however, denied supporting the group.
Ramasamy claimed that he had been involved in peace talks between the Sri Lankan government and the LTTE several years ago.
